"With the knowledge of God's love and the desire that God's love be revealed through our ministry, Lutheran Special Education Ministries serves to enable children with special learning needs to receive a Christian education." (Lutheran Special Education Ministries Mission Statement)

We have onsite an experienced Special Education teacher from Lutheran Special Education Ministries who functions as a teacher consultant, educational evaluator, and in-service presenter.  This teacher provides both direct instruction and support services for students at risk.

LSEM teacher responsibilities occur on three levels.  The primary level is to consult with administrators, teachers, and parents to facilitate the inclusion process. Secondly, direct instruction as well as general education support is offered in select cases.  Last, the LSEM teacher works in cooperation with professionals from Rochester Community Schools and co-ordinates services in the following areas: learning disabilities consultation, psychological services, speech & language therapy, occupational & physical therapy, and social work.  The LSEM teacher arranges for monthly meetings of these specialists (as needed) to consider and plan for students requiring these services.  The website, www.luthsped.org, gives additional information about LSEM services.

Oakland County provides our school with a registered public health nurse. The nurse's regular duties include counseling, referral follow-up, serving as a resource for educational programs, and making home visits.
