Hearts for Jesus is a learning and giving program of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Michigan District which helps K-8 students around the district learn about and financially support a designated ministry each year during the month of February. Chapel offerings and Casual for a Cause donations in February at St. John Lutheran School are designated to support Hearts for Jesus, which in 2018 benefited Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM).
St. John Lutheran School is thankful to have a fully staffed, onsite LSEM program, with two outstanding LSEM instructors, Mrs. Shane Schwichtenberg (full-time) and Mrs. Annalisa Toth. (part-time). Through the LSEM program, these teachers provide individual and small group instruction both within the LSEM room and also in grade level classrooms for K-8 students.
Through this year’s Hearts for Jesus program, the inspiring story of the wonderful work of LSEM in our Lutheran Schools across the nation is shared, including the real life stories of four students whose lives have been touched by LSEM, including our very own middle schooler Ethan!
The theme of the 2018 project was Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, inspired by Psalm 139:14 - "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
