St. John offers Special Education instruction from Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM). LSEM faculty provide both direct instruction and support services for qualifying students. The LSEM teachers also function as teacher consultants, student evaluators and in-service presenters. St. John has a full-time and an additional part-time LSEM instructor on our campus.
LSEM teacher responsibilities occur on many levels. The primary level is offering direct instruction as well as general education support to students who qualify for services. The LSEM teachers also consult with administrators, teachers, and parents to facilitate the inclusion process at St. John. In addition, the LSEM teachers work in cooperation with professionals from Rochester Community Schools and coordinate services in the following areas: learning disabilities consultation, psychological services, speech & language therapy, occupational & physical therapy, and social work.
Lutheran Special Education Ministries mission statement reads: "With the knowledge of God's love and the desire that God's love be revealed through our ministry, Lutheran Special Education Ministries serves to enable children with special learning needs to receive a Christian education."
